Moving on.

Easier said than done, is it not?

"Let the past be the past" - the cliche saying that we're all supposed to abide by. Some motto that was created who knows where, but that is somehow supposed to universally apply to life, to help us get over and conquer our past. We all reminisce about a time that was, and long for its return.
But when does this longing become dangerous, in a sense?
When are we supposed to 'let the past be the past', and let things go? Let part of you go?

You know, change is a funny thing. A moment in time is dictating and shaping our future. When do we loosen up our fingers from the firm grip we have on that time; and let it go? Sometimes when we attempt it, and as it begins to fall, we become afraid and quickly pick it back up latching onto it more tightly than before. What we have in our hand is familiar, and if we let it go, it leaves room for something new.

Do we fear the new?

It's fear that drives the troubled to remain in their state. It's fear that leads to stagnancy. It's because of fear that you're refusing to toss your past it into the whirling abyss of time.
Instead of letting the present form the future, the past does it for you. It has shaped your thoughts and expectations, and if they weren't the most healthy experiences, they are now destroying your future.
Although the familiar is just that, and provides a level of comfort and security, be aware that it's a farce. It's a distortion of reality. The reality of the situation is that you need a change. Realizing you need a change takes strength and courage. People that seek change are embarking on one of the hardest journey's they'll ever take, and they don't even realize it. Change takes guts.
That's why most fail, and revert back to their old ways.
Because once they go down that clear path, the light is a little too bright for them and it almost blinds them. They've been in darkness for so long that it will take some time for their eyes to adjust.
If you just take the time and have the patience to allow your eyes to adjust, you'll be able to see the beauty that lies before you that you've been blinded to for so long.

Although the unknown is frightening, in it may lie the answer/solution that you've been searching for all along.
